Monitor the levels in your tank with aquarium test sets

Aquarium test sets are critically important as they test your aquarium water to monitor ammonia, nitrate and pH levels.  There are a number of types and brands on the market to choose from.  Aquarium test sets come in dry chemical reagents, liquid solutions and dipping strips.  Some are easier to use and provide better results.  You may have to try a few different ones to find what is best for you.

When using dry powders, tablets or liquid solutions, you need to be cautious as these are toxic chemicals.  Using too much can have devastating affects on your tank.  Dry reagent aquarium test kits are time stamped and will expire is not used within the time allotted.  They often need to be stored in a cool place.  Some popular brands include SeaTesT Reef Test Kits, Dry-Tab Test Kits and Kordon AquaTru Test Kits.

Liquid reagent aquarium test kits also have a limited shelf life.  Many people prefer liquids to powders as they find it easier to get the liquid into the test tube vials than the powder.  Again, a number of popular brands include Tetratest Kits, AP Liquid Test Kits, and Hagen Test Kits.
