The proper aquarium hoods are critical the health of your tanks

 When people first start out building their aquariums, they may only start with fish.  But as your experience grows and you want to add live plants or invertebrates, you will aquarium hoods and the right aquarium lighting system to compliment your choice of live plants.  Aquarium hoods come in a variety of styles and designs so most people choose them to suite their specific requirements.

When selecting aquarium hoods, you must take into account the required aquarium lighting.  A hood is no good to you if it can't house the proper lighting required for your tank.  Depending on whether you have salt water aquarium or not, the hood you choose should be able to stand up to the environment it is in.  It should have a sturdy door hinge as it will be opened and closed daily and it will have to stand up to the traffic. 

You also want to ensure that you can add onto your aquarium hoods.  Some aquarium accessories than could possibly be added is a cooling fan or even metal halide lamps.  It is best to build your aquarium so that you can grow into it rather than having to purchase new equipment every time you want to change something.  For best results, speak to a professional at your local fish or pet store.
