Aquarium heaters are important to keep your tank environment stable

Aquarium heaters are a critical piece of equipment to keep your fish healthy and vibrant.  Because fish are cold blooded, they don’t have the ability to increase or decrease body temperature to suit their environment, therefore, you have to do it for they via aquarium heaters.  Like aquarium air pumps, lighting and other supplies, there is a full line of heaters to choose from.

Depending on the type of fish in your tank, size of tank, room temperature and other sources of heat such as aquarium lighting, will determine the wattage of aquarium heaters needed.  You can check online to get a good tank temperature chart or you can visit your local aquarium shop and speak with a professional.

There are 3 main types of aquarium heaters to choose from including hang-on-tank style, submersible style and heating cable system.  The submersible style is more efficient than the hang-on-tank style because it is fully submerged in the water.  Heating cable systems are placed under your tank’s gravel.  We recommend keeping a spare heating on hand just in case the one in use breaks down.
