What to expect if you start coral reef aquariums

So you have decided you want to start coral reef aquariums but are a little confused about what to do first.  Our goal is to provide a few suggestions to get you going on your coral reef aquariums as quickly and easily as possible.  Before getting started, you will have to understand a few things about the system you choose, the inhabitants of your tank and what time commitments are required to keep it up.

First off, coral reef aquariums are not cheap.  So be prepared that you are getting into an expensive hobby, but one that will create hours of enjoyment.  The most important thing to start with is the size of your tank.  Bigger is better in this case as the larger the aquarium, the more stable the environment.  So plan on getting as large as possible for the size of the area it will sit in.

Your coral reef aquariums can have a little as two different corals up to as many will fit in the tank.  With corals, one of the most important pieces of equipment is your aquarium lighting.  When buying your corals, make sure they need approximately the same amount of light if you are just starting out.  Once you get more experienced, you can vary them for different light requirements.  It is best to start slow and grow into your aquarium.  Remember, the most important thing is to have fun with it.
