Advantages of glass aquariums over acrylic

So you have decided to start an aquarium.  The question is do you get glass aquariums or acrylic.  Either way, we recommend starting out with a 20 to 29 gallon acrylic or glass aquariums.  It is always best to start out with something larger than smaller as it is easier to keep the water more stable in a larger aquarium than smaller.  The more stable the environment the happier and healthier your fish will be.

There are some major differences you have to take into account when considering either acrylic or glass aquariums.  First of all, glass is much heavier than acrylic so if you are going with a large aquarium you need to take the weight into consideration.  Acrylic is also stronger than glass and will not shatter but rather flex.  Glass tanks have been know to shatter is knocked with a hard object by accident.

Advantages of glass aquariums are they don’t scratch as easily as acrylic and they are much easier to clean.  Glass tanks are also less expensive than acrylic and generally come in square or rectangle shapes.  Technology however is changing this and other shapes are becoming more popular.  If you want something out of the ordinary, you best bet is to go with acrylic tanks that are offered in a variety of shapes and sizes.
